Jackson Honours His Junior Years.
Every football journey starts somewhere.
For Jackson Mead, it began alongside his big brother Mitch at SMOSH FC, in the grade we affectionately called the "Grasshoppers."
Even then, it was obvious to everyone watching that Jackson was born to play footy.
His love for the game was infectious, and his competitive spirit made him a standout from day one.
Jackson completed his junior football with SMOSH in 2017 before being drafted by Port Adelaide Football Club in 2019.
A fearless midfielder/forward, who has recently been used in defence, he has built his reputation on courage, relentless attack on the football, and an uncompromising work ethic.
His path to the AFL wasn't without significant challenges.
Before making his long-awaited debut in 2022, Jackson overcame a serious and freak injury after suffering a lacerated spleen while playing in the SANFL.
Overcoming that significant injury, was a remarkable display of resilience and determination that tells us everything about the courage and character of ‘Meady’.
In 2024, Jackson cemented his place in Port Adelaide's senior side, playing all 26 AFL games and establishing himself in one of the competition's most competitive midfields.
He has continued that momentum and has played 70 AFL games, with plenty more to come.
This week, Port Adelaide is recognising the junior clubs that helped shape its players, and we're incredibly proud that we managed to find "Meady" a guernsey that would fit him.
It's obviously not his old Grasshoppers one.
Pictured at Port Adelaide Football Club is our WLSC Chairman Kev Keeler presenting Jackson with his SMOSH West Lakes FC No. 3 guernsey, a reminder of where the journey began.
Jackson's story is a powerful message for every one of our junior Lions.
Dream big. Work hard. Embrace adversity. Show courage, resilience and determination. If you're prepared to do the work and never give up, extraordinary things are possible.
Congratulations, Meady. Your SMOSH West Lakes family couldn't be prouder. 🦁💙❤️
